The Defensive Driving course is designed to teach drivers about safe driving attitudes and behaviors. It includes 6 hours of classroom instruction, which may be offered as an all-day class, usually on a Saturday, or split over the course of two evenings during the week.
A student must attend all six hours, and cannot arrive late or leave early, as schools are required to deny entrance to any student that is not on time or late returning from breaks. At the end of the class, a test is given on all material covered. A student must score 70% or better to pass and be awarded a Certificate of Completion. This Certificate may be turned in to the judge that ordered the class for ticket dismissal, to the Department of Driver Services for a reduction of up to 7 points on the license or a license reinstatement.
The fee for this course is $95 and is set by the State of Georgia. However, if you are not attending for DDS/Court purposes, and will only use the certificate to obtain a reduction on your car insurance premium, the price is $45.
If you wish to attend a Defensive Driving class, come to the office Monday – Friday between 4-7 PM to complete the required paperwork. Walk-ins are welcomed. Your fee must be paid before the first session. If it isn't paid by this time, you will be assigned to the next class.
During this visit, you will receive an overview of the Defensive Driving process, select a class date, complete the required paper work and pay the associated fee ($95 or $45).
Scheduled classes will have 2 sessions, 3 hours each:
Weekend Schedule: Session 1 on Saturday from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM & Session 2 on Saturday from 12 PM - 3 PM
Please eat your meal before or after each session.
